The Finnish Parliament has decided to strengthen the protection of the border with Russia because of the "hybrid threats" allegedly coming from its side. This is reported by Bild with reference to the statement of the consultant of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country, Anne Ihanus.

The strengthening will take place within the framework of the "Law on the Protection of State Borders" and the amendment adopted within it. It will facilitate the construction of stronger fences along the 1,300-kilometer border between Russia and Finland.

The publication claims that the plans to strengthen the border are connected with fears that Moscow may use refugee flows to exert political pressure on neighboring European countries. This happened in 2021 on the border of Belarus with a number of EU countries, when after the introduction of tough sanctions, the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko refused to restrain migration flows to Europe. Because of the crisis, thousands of people gathered at the border, many of whom tried to illegally enter Poland, Lithuania or Latvia.
